Calgary is a vibrant
metropolitan city and one of the fastest growing cities
in Canada. It is now the third largest cities by population in the
country after Toronto and Montreal. The
demographics reveal that Calgary's population grew by 15.8 % in
the 5 years between 1996 and 2001. Calgary's population continues
to grow faster than the Province as a whole and the population density
of the city is averaged 1,252.3 persons per square kilometre. On
Jul 25, 2006, Calgary celebrated its millionth resident. It is estimated
that 98 new people arrive in Calgary every day.
The
city is divided into a four-quadrant grid (NW,
SW, SE and NE) with the Bow River separating North from South, and
Centre Street-Macleod Trail.
