With
an economy largely based on the petroleum industry,
Calgary is one the fastest-growing city in Canada. It is also known
as ‘Canada's Oil Capital’ as it is the center of Canada's
oil and gas industry. Agriculture, tourism,
and the high-tech industry are the other three corner
stones of the economy.
The
Oil and Gas giants include EnCana, Petro-Canada, Shell Canada, Imperial
Oil, Suncor Energy, and TransCanada.
The
city has the second highest concentration of head offices in Canada
and offers a variety of opportunities for employment. Imperial Oil,
which moved its headquarters from Toronto to Calgary in 2005, is
the largest employer. The other large employers include the University
of Calgary, the Forzani Group, ATCO, Fluor Canada, Shaw Cable and
Westjet
