The
Calgary Board of Education runs 215 schools in the
English language public school system. The board also operates a French
immersion program for English speaking families who wish
their children to become fully fluent in French.
For children from French families that do not need immersion, Calgary
has one francophone public school (Ecole de la Rose Sauvage) and one
francophone catholic school (Ecole Sainte-Marguerite-Bourgeoys).
Calgary Catholic School District Board runs 93 schools.
The
University of Calgary, located in the north-western part
of the city, is the main higher study institution and one of the
finest universities in Canada. Mount Royal College
is the city's second largest institution with 13,000 students. Bow
Valley College's provides training in business, technology,
and the liberal arts. The Southern Alberta Institute of
Technology (SAIT) is known for its quality technical education
and hands-on training. Calgary also has the Alberta College
of Art and Design (ACAD). Besides, the city has numerous
private schools and colleges.
