With more
than 400 kilometres of pathways and 8000 hectares of parkland and
green space, Calgary is a nice place to live. Among the most picturesque
parks:
- Fish Creek Provincial Park, Canada's only Provincial
Park
- Nose Hill Park, the largest municipal park in Canada,
located in the northwest quadrant of Calgary
- Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, a 3 kilometre nature
trail, is home to 216 bird species.
- Prince’s island, a small island in the middle
of the Bow River is a very popular spot during the summer, a few steps
from downtown.
There are also many golf courses in the Calgary area.
The
remarkable Canada Olympic Park offers the perfect
winter sports and skiing spots. The Olympic Oval
is a speed-skating arena, but also accommodates hockey and high-performance
training.
Erstwhile known as Olympic Saddledome, the Pengrowth
Saddledome or Dome is the main indoor arena facility in Calgary.
It is the home to Calgary Flames - National Hockey League, Calgary
Hitmen - Western Hockey League and Calgary Roughnecks - National
Lacrosse League.
The open-air stadium McMohan Stadium has a capacity
of nearly 40,000 and is the 5th largest in Canada. It is the venue
of Canadian Football League team, the Calgary Stampeders and hosts
numerous other events.
With the mountains at its doorstep, Calgary offers endless opportunities
to hike, bike or just enjoy the wilderness. In winter, snow shoeing,
cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowboarding are some extremely
popular sports.
